Show Notes

Leading cardiovascular researcher, D.r Carl "Chip" Lavie, has made many contributions to understanding and improving cardiovascular health including identifying the obesity paradox. Patients with obesity whom have had a major adverse cardiovascular event are expected to have worse outcomes than their normal weight counterparts. However, people with obesity have statistically better outcomes than normal weight individuals with cardiovascular disease. This is referred to as the obesity paradox. In this podcast, OMA Executive Director of Clinical Education Dr. Nicholas Pennings interviews Dr. Lavie discussing the obesity paradox and the many variables that influence the obesity paradox including the severity of obesity, body fat distribution, and the role of physical activity on cardiovascular outcomes in patients with obesity.
