In this episode, OMA Executive Director of Clinical Education, Dr. Nicholas Pennings is joined by Dr. Ethan Lazarus, 2021-2022 President of the OMA Board of Trustees, to discuss the importance of individualized nutrition plans in the treatment of obesity. Obesity Medicine Association has developed the 4 pillars construct as a tool for structuring an obesity treatment plan. Of the 4 pillars (nutrition, physical activity, behavioral therapy, and pharmacotherapy), nutrition tends to be one of the most challenging in terms of the wide variety of options for nutritional intervention as well as the wide variety in individual response of patients to nutritional interventions. In this podcast, the doctors explore individualized nutrition plans including meal replacements and intermittent fasting, the role of medication, as well as the importance of a team-based approach in treating the chronic disease of obesity.
